Breakthrough is a weekend youth outreach that Capernwray puts on each semester. This year’s theme is “The Amazing Race.” We have the opportunity to transform our campus into 10 different countries that hundreds of 12-18 year olds will ‘visit’ over the weekend. They will race from country to country accomplishing the challenges that we will prepare for them, and the first team to finish wins! After the “race” the whole group will gather and watch a short film introducing the biblical theme of ‘running the race of life.’ The main verse is 1 Corinthians 9:24, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
We were able to be apart of the film crew that traveled down to Napier to shoot the film they will show at Breakthrough. We all jumped in a van for the long weekend and shot on the way down, as well as around Napier for the next three days. Hadassah the leader of Breakthrough was the director for the film. Chris and Ruben, a Dutch BML student and Intern with Dave, both did the shooting. Three other students acted in the film, Bettina (Swiss), Emily (Canadian), and Jo (German). Jos, Ruben’s brother, was also there for creative direction, and I took pictures, held umbrellas over the cameras when it rained, and organized the food for the weekend. It was so much fun to be part of this creative team, and to bring to life a challenging passage of Scripture. We shot at many diverse locations to represent the different seasons and challenges of life, contrasting valleys and mountaintops, dark rainy cliffs and beautiful sunny beaches. Bettina was a very convincing actress, and I hope to run with the determination she portrays in the difficult times as well as the enjoyable ones.
Here are a few (okay a lot) of the pictures from the weekend. Enjoy.
